Job Description

DIRECTOR OF DC OPERATIONS

The Director of DC Operations is a critical member of the management team and reports to the Vice President – DC Operations. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of their assigned DC which includes: inbound receiving, outbound shipping, order fulfillment, labor management and other activities that are carried out by the facilities. The key metrics for this position are cost reduction, productivity improvement, quality, service level attainment and safety.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Directs the day-to-day operations of the DC to ensure safe, timely, high quality product delivery while reducing costs. 

• Partners with Human Resources on interviewing, hiring, performance management, terminations and counseling within the Distribution center.

• Reports and tracks department numbers and corrective actions.

• Establish and adjust work procedures and shift schedules to meet deadlines as dictated by volume fluctuations.

• Maintains safety and housekeeping of department in accordance with OSHA standards and in partnership with the total DC safety objectives. Ensure that operators meet or exceed minimum company standards and that all necessary licenses and certifications are up to date.

• Supports and drives ongoing change within the organization.

• Develops, monitors & reports on operating costs within the DC. Alerts management of cost and labor over run. Makes recommendations and implements solutions to cure deficiencies in the before mentioned areas.

• Works collaboratively with the Inventory Manager to ensure that cycle count process is implemented as designed and inventory is reported accurately.

• Responsible for the warehouse labor, repair & maintenance and warehouse material budget categories for their respective DC.

• Provides leadership to the specific DC teams that carry out the below functions:

1. Inbound container scheduling and receiving

2. Put-away and audit operations

3. Pick and Pack operations in both a parcel and LTL/TL environment

4. Schedule outbound shipments and pickups

5. Quality assurance

6. Safety

7. Upholstery and Embroidery departments (Canton DC Only)

• Works with internal departments and customers on special requests.

 QUALIFICATIONS

• 10+ Years in a distribution center environment.

• Experience in establishing and leading multiple teams in the discipline of order fulfillment and DC operations.

• Previous experience in e-commerce distribution.

• Strong analytical / reporting skills required, proficient in Excel

• Proven track record of leading through change & driving efficiency

• Must be able to prioritize, manage and drive projects effectively and meet deadlines

• Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics or Business with MBA preferred

LANGUAGE SKILLS

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret such items as highly detailed professional, customer, and technical journals, manuals and legal documents.

• Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints from both inside and outside the company.

• Ability to communicate and relate to front line workers as well as senior management team.

• Trained in change management and conflict resolution.

QUANTITATIVE SKILLS

 Ability to comprehend financial principles. Ability to use a computer to create highly customized spreadsheets and charts, run reports, and interpret data. 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Excellent communications, interpersonal and leadership skills.

• Excellent analytical skills.

• Ability to prioritize, delegate, and oversee multiple projects simultaneously.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel programs; familiarity with other business software.

• Ability to engage in the physical requirements of a DC operation.

• Ability to engage in in-person and remote work environments.
